Interview with Veronica Ariel – Creative Director for Socialite

Whats up all!

Its Josh from AA – #DWYD! We have an exclusive interview with one of the top up and coming fashion designers in the game, her name is Veronica Ariel and she the creative directory for Socialite. I have been following her career for awhile and she is truly making moves for herself and definitely living the #DoWhatYouDesire life with a passion. So, after some convincing and arm pulling, she took the time out of her busy and productive schedule to answer some questions for me! Before you read, know her mission:

My mission: To inspire the fashionably challenged, style the fashion conscious, pique the interest of the fashion elite…one garment at a time.

So, most interviews don’t start like this, but, how are you feeling at this moment?

At the present moment, I’m tired and ready to get off work(my day job). Unfortunately, it’s raining here in Chicago, which always puts a damper on the day, and since I work retail, it’s making the day draaaaag.  However, I feel amazing otherwise.

If someone came up to you on the street and asked, what do you do? What would you say to them?

If someone came up to me on the street and asked me what I did for a living, I would gladly tell them I’m a fashion designer, and hand them my business card. That way, I don’t have to give them too much info on the initial meeting, but I can drive more traffic to my website,, and also, more awareness to my social media pages.
I am a lover of fashion and style, what drew you to the fashion industry? When did you have that “AHA” moment of, this is what I desire to do?

Initially, I never even saw myself designing clothes, I wanted to write/produce music(yea, believe it or not) but for some reason or another, I was distracted and ended up at the Illinois Institute of Art; and the rest is history.  I guess I had my “ah ha” moment my senior year in college.  We had our yearly fashion show and I submitted some of my pieces and was awarded “Excellence in Women’s Sportswear”.  I was in utter shock, but I was so humbled and at that moment, I realized, this is it for me.

What was your first design or project? When you look back at it now…is it hot? Or is it wack to you? LOL!

My first design was my first constructed garment, and yes it was wack LOL!  I wasn’t skilled back then as I am now, so yea, everything I did my first year was wack and basic, lol, I’m just going to be honest.

Many people think style is being “trendy”, I don’t…I don’t even like the word trend, but I want to know what does the term “style” mean to you? How would you define it?

My definition of style is wearing what the heck you like.  I don’t care for trends either, but I mean, let’s be real, we all follow them to a certain degree.  However, they shouldn’t be the end all be all when it comes to personal style.  Style is something you have, it’s innate, trends fade and I’m glad that they do.

Who are some of the people you have styled for?

I’ve styled so many models here in Chicago, DJ’s, some indie artists.  I just recently met Beyonce’s lead dancer, Ashely Everett and got some of pieces on her which lead to me meeting the other lead, Kimmie G, who also wanted Socialite pieces.  I didn’t really style them, technically, but I can say that Beyonce’s lead dancers have been “laced” if you will.

I noticed the dancing lady on one of your shirts, with the banana skirt…was that inspired by Josephine Baker? Why did you choose that particular image?
The dancing banana skirt tee is an actual image of Josephine Baker I used from an artist by the name of Paul Colin.  It was a project I did when I was in college for my “Color Theory” class.  I like the image so much and it never left my memory, so I used it for a tee.

As you know, we created the lifestyle motto or saying “Do What You Desire” or #DWYD – what does that saying mean to you and what you are doing?

DWYD means exactly how it sounds, doing what you desire!  No matter what people say, how they may say you can or can’t do something or it’s going to be hard/impossible, forget what the naysayers say and forget their thoughts, DO WHAT YOU DESIRE!  Whatever it is, if you love it and are passionate about it, DO IT!

And, just to keep it Hood, do you have any shootouts you want to give?

S/O: Me. Myself and I.  just kidding lol.   Man, everyone in Chicago, everyone that supports what I do, everyone that’s been a fan since my first collection, my loyal clients and all my bae’s(TOTALLY kidding).  S/O to you of course for even having the desire and the interest to interview me!!

Interview with Pavy

Most interviews don’t start off like this, but how are you doing today?

Lol it isn’t but it’s all good just sitting watching movies drinking my scotch hope all is well on your side also.

If someone came up to you in the street and asked “What do you do”? What would you say?

I usually say “I make music” because it’s such a bad stigma that comes when you say “I rap” and I would really appreciate if people listen to the music and then judge me so yeah. I say I make music.

What motivated you to become a music artist?

Troubles like I’m a only child and I live with my grandmother so it was never anybody to talk to. Plus I love attention and it’s something I never really got at home so it was a way to gain attention & relieve my stress and just put my mind out there.

Can you tell us about your creative process, how do you go about creating songs?

Depends usually it starts with a idea and goes from there. As far as writing usually I create the hook first then the verses later. Sometimes it’s the other way around but usually it’s the hook first.

You have worked with Sir Michael Rocks, The Boy Illinois and producer Paris Bueller! How were those experiences!

Well I didn’t actually met Mikey until we shot the video so it was really just a business decision but when I met him he was really cool and humble and that kind of surprised me. Illi is my homie man that’s like legit my big bro so it’s just like working with family every time I work with him I honestly look up to him so I always wanna make sure my bars or whatever don’t disappoint. But we have a whole lot of songs together like stuff you guys haven’t even heard yet. Paris was great as well man he came through and made the beat on sight after he listen to a couple records to get a feel for my music. I really appreciated that because a lot of producers won’t do that ESP someone with the accolades of him. So that was great man that record is one of the singles on my album so look forward to hearing that really soon.

Who are some of the artists that you admire in the music game?

Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, The Weeknd, Rick Ross, Kanye West & Future.

We have a saying #DOWHATYOUDESIRE, how does that apply to you and what you do?

I just do what I want, like I realized the best way to “fit in” is to not worry so much about what people accept so whatever I feel like doing that’s what I do. Basically I “do what I desire”

Interview with Giftz

Most interviews don’t start off like this, but how are you doing today?

I’m just coolin man…just coolin

If someone came up to you in the street and asked “What do you do”? What would you say?

I would tell them that I’m an artist…a very good one at that lol!

What motivated you to become a music artist?

Lil Wayne and Jay Z motivated me to become an artist. Growing up the first rap music I ever heard was from the Hot Boys and I was amazed that Lil Wayne being so young could be so good…I was introduced to Jay z after and the way he painted a picture was second to none…I just figured if they could do it…I could do it too

Can you tell us about your creative process, how do you go about creating songs?

My process is simple…it’s hard for me to write without hearing the beat first…when I hear the beat if I have to struggle to figure out what I should talk about over the beat I feel like I shouldn’t use it…once I figure out where I’m going with the song the rest is history

You have worked with King L, Rockie Fresh and Freddie Gibbs! How were those experiences!

A lot of weed smoke! Honestly I look up to each one of those guys for different reasons so being able to get in the studio and work with them was dope! I like working with artist that have experienced the things that I know I’ll run into in the future…it gives me a chance to pick their brains and get some insight on this industry! All of those dudes are funny as hell though…

Who are some of the artists that you admire in the music game?

I admire anybody that’s making moves and getting some money doing what they love! Jay Z, Jadakiss, Lil Wayne…it’s hella people I could name.

Do you have any current projects that you are working on that you can tell us about?

Im working on my next full length album…I’m not sure if I’ll keep the title I came up with right now but that’s coming soon! Other than that I have the EP Back To The Basics 2 coming this year as well…I also have another EP I’m working on with one of my homies…it’s so unexpected though I think I’ll keep that one under wraps for a little while longer

We have a saying #DOWHATYOUDESIRE, how does that apply to you and what you do?

It fits me perfectly…because I do whatever the hell I wanna do!
